Satellite tech stressed to revamp farming
Pakistan has favourable climate conditions especially for exploiting the natural resources in order to boost agriculture productivity.
“Natural resources mapping techniques like remote sensing and digital image processing as well as GIS are key to revamp the agronomic strategies and agricultural planning,” Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor UAF, said this while talking to a 20-member delegation of Agricultural Scientists, Experts and Farmers of Balochistan here last week.
He urged the scientists to switch over to satellite technologies for the forecast procedures for available land and water resources of the country.
According to him, Balochistan has great potential for the cropping intensity as well as for bringing food security and agricultural revolution in the country. He mentioned UAF has been providing human resource development services to all provinces particularly Balochistan. He, however, expressed his concern over the forthcoming disastrous threat in shape of global warming and climate change and said that we need to redesign our strategies on war footing basis in this regard.
Professor Dr Rai Niaz Ahmad, Dean Faculty of Agri Engineering & Tech. UAF, on the occasion, highlighted the initiatives taken by his faculty regarding introduction of modern technological approaches particularly remote sensing and digital image processing.
