 Midwest has vast biogas potential

NEW ULM - The Midwest has vast, untapped resources for biogas production, according to a new report by the Great Plains Institute (GPI), a non-profit organization that works with public and private leaders across the northern plains to speed up the transition to renewable, low-carbon energy production.
The report's author spoke Thursday at the New Ulm Library during a Southwest Clean Energy Resource Team (CERT) meeting.
The report written by GIP Energy Policy Specialist Amanda Bilek is geared to confirm and identify barriers to widespread anaerobic digester development in the Midwest, build support among key interests, explore new and improve existing business models for scaling up technology, develop technical resources and develop policy recommendations to sustain long-term growth.
Last fall as part of a University of Wisconsin and Wisconsin Bioenergy Initiative, Bilek participated in a week-long trip to Germany to met biogas industry representatives and visit their facilities.
