The Biomass Unit

The Biomass Unit is one of the four research Units that were established since inception of the Centre in 1982 to carryout research and development in the area of biomass and biomass related system such as improved wood stoves, Saw- dust stoves and Coal Stoves. The Unit has produce many biogas plant of various sizes, improved wood stoves, Saw p- dust stoves and Coal stoves across the country.
Organic, non fossil material of biological origin is called biomass. It is organic carbon based material that reacts with oxygen in combustion and natural metabolic process to release heat. Chemical and biological process to produce intermediate bio fuels such as methane gas, ethanol or charcoal may transform the initial, when released in combustion the bio fuel energy is dissipated but the elements of the material should be available for recycling in natural ecological or agricultural process..
Below are some the system developed by the unit.

Fixed dome Biogas plant

Portable Biogas digester

Double hole Saw – dust stove
 Coal Stove
 Community based improved wood Stoves

Distribution of improved wood stoves to Danjawa c
